The major wine producing regions in the United States are California, which dominates, with 96% of the total output; New York state; and the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon and Idaho). Wines from all these areas have earned international recognition.

Grapes are also shown on a much smaller scale for commercial wine production in many other states - such as Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Texas, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The UK is now the second largest export market in the world for US wines. In 1992, exports of US wines to Canada were 37,016,000 liters: with exports to the UK at 23,468,000 liters. Growth in US wine exports to the UK has been dramatic, particularly since 1990.
